Rubik's Cube

I did not come up with this way to solve the cube, I am just copying it for easy access if I remember that this page exists.

Notation: Up, Down, Front, Back, Left, Right. Superscript -1 = counterclockwise.

Layer 1: Top face

Layer 2: Middle layer

Layer 3: Top layer

Orient the edges (form a cross on top)

Only look at the top face colours for now; ignore side colours. Repeat F R U R-1 U-1 F-1 as needed:

  1. No edges correct: run the algorithm with any face as F.
  2. An "L" shape: hold the L in the upper-left of U, run the algorithm.
  3. A line: hold it parallel to F, run the algorithm once more.

Permute the edges (put them in the right place)

Rotate U until at least 2 edge pieces are in their correct side position.

Permute the corners (right positions, ignore orientation)

Hold a correctly placed corner in the bottom-right of U (if one exists). Repeat as needed: U R U-1 L-1 U R-1 U-1 L

If no corner is correct, any face will do. Run the algorithm once to get one correct, then proceed.

Step 4: Orient the corners (final step)

Hold a misoriented corner in the bottom-right of U and repeat R-1 D-1 R D until that corner is correct. Then rotate U to bring the next misoriented corner to the bottom-right and repeat. Do not rotate the whole cube.

Note: The cube will look scrambled during this step, that's normal. Once all corners are oriented, a final U rotation should complete the solve.
